Mission Statement. The Mission of the Montana Alpine Race School Foundation is to advance our student/athletes academic and character development by supporting their involvement in competitive alpine racing programs.

Introducing the Montana Alpine Race School, more commonly called MARS, as a new program for the 2016-17 season. MARS is a USSA member club whose racers will call the Northern Division of USSA their home circuit. Racers will also be competing throughout western US and Canada in USSA and FIS. This team comes with plenty of individual success with 9 of its 11 members representing Northern Division at Regional Championship series in 2015-16. One of its U14 members qualified from Western Regionals to earn a spot at the 2016 U16 National Championships. Annika Severn-Eriksson skied to a podium finish against the best U14’s in the nation finishing 3rd in the Slalom, 23rd overall. Dawson Rinehart earned a USSA Northern Division Gold Points Development Scholarship, Camas Rinehart a Northern Division Academic Scholarship and William Lewison was recipient of an AK Rocket award for dedication and sportsmanship by ND.

We have chosen the name Montana Alpine Race School because we represent more than just the local area. We have athletes who have enrolled from other parts of Montana. They come here specifically to train for all or a portion of the ski season. These are young people who not only dream of something big but they are willing to take ownership of that opportunity and work towards that goal. Our experience has shown that this pursuit of excellence in a sport coupled with the lessons and sacrifices that journey entails while maintaining academic goals will undoubtedly lead to excellence both in skiing and in life beyond. That pursuit and its long journey toward the goal does have room for fun and it is, in fact, the most important ingredient.

MARS has added Blacktail Mountain to our training sites. We are very excited to add this training opportunity with 425 vertical meters of training capability on north facing terrain. The ability to train a variety of full length GS courses with gradients ranging between 20-40%, 33 avg. is a coach’s dream. Whitefish Mountain Resort is one of the finest areas in the country. We plan to be at Whitefish Mountain for a solid portion of our training as well. These are two terrific ski areas in this valley and we look forward to the privilege to utilize both. We start our season off at our Canadian home Panorama Mountain Resort for a series of camps every November and December. Every summer we travel to Mount Hood and train in partnership with Mount Hood Academy for 2 weeks.

We welcome new students for either a full or partial season.  We can build a plan for you and help you to boost your season. If you are interested, please contact us and we can discuss the possibilities.

The MARS team is designed for the U14 and older ski racer looking to reach his/her highest potential. This group commits to a full year plan incorporating other sports into that plan as a diversity of sport is important for athlete development. The ski season is 5-6 days available on snow working on the fundamentals of skiing as well as race tactic training from speed to slalom. Physical and Mental training are a part of the season plan for this group. Although this group has lofty goals that they dedicate themselves toward having fun is strongly encouraged.

This group has their eyes set on excelling at regional, national and international ski racing; not just getting there. U14 is the base of the US Ski Team selection system. We aim to have this group prepared for any test along that path that they achieve. Strong fundamentals are stressed not only in skiing but in other key elements as well. The athlete learns to take ownership of their journey and being prepared for the tests along that path. Those tests include academics, physical development, mental training, diet and being a valued part of a community. We work with the schools of Flathead Valley and web based learning to best prepare these athletes for life beyond ski racing.

This group travels to races in many locations and will continue to expand that radius with success. MARS has a recommended race plan for U14, U16, U19 and FIS athlete groups and customized for each member. That plan may change as goals are reached, snow conditions or situations arise. MARS will attempt to send a coach to races as much as is feasible. MARS will arrange housing and transport as best as possible. It is important that parents update Intent to Compete Doc for transport and housing needs 14 days prior to departure. A trip estimate will be available and family will be invoiced for estimated amount to be paid prior to departure. An adjustment value will be billed or credited to family account. The cost of the traveling coach will be shared by the participants for travel, room and food equally regardless. As a general rule athlete meals are purchased by the athlete at restaurants unless a meal is including in hotel. On occasion team purchases food to cook in and that cost will be shared by participating families.

This group has a dryland camp in June, physical testing in August and October, Dryland Sundays in September and regular daily physical training at the conclusion of fall sport schedules.

The program cost for this group is $3,000 which includes all coaching and training fees for the year; however, Mt Hood is not included in that price and is extra. Individual programs of differing content may be considered if proposed in writing.
